Our mission

Our mission is to provide transitional housing for homeless women, children and families, and provide experiences that empower, mentor, and support women and the broader community so they can achieve their highest potential.

Margaret’s Village accomplishes its mission through:

Maria Shelter A 50-bed facility primarily for homeless women and their children established in 1989 and located in Englewood.

Believe A second 50-bed shelter located in South Chicago and serving families including those headed by fathers and two-parent households.

Vincennes Senior Center (VCS) Serves elder community members facing isolation and food insecurity.

Strengthening Families
We provide100 beds of interim housing through Maria and Believe Shelters for women, children, and intact families, and a wealth of services to empower them to return to a life of self-reliance.
Building Community
- The Vincennes Senior Center – Serves elder community members facing isolation and food insecurity.
- Community Garden Project – Seniors and residents turn otherwise vacant land into a community garden.
- Health Fair – On a summer day, local area residents come to Margaret’s Village free medical services.
- Peace Fair – In a “block party” setting, children and teens engage in activities that build skills and self-esteem, and offer alternatives to violence.
Opening Doors
When a new resident arrives, our on-site case managers provide holistic and individualized services to support a resident’s goals. Through partner agencies we facilitate job training, coaching and employment placement.

Support Margaret’s Village

Reimagining Chicago’s south side by collaborating with others

• Advocates to address issues that cause homelessness with All Chicago, Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, and the City of Chicago Department of Family and Support Services.

• Ensures neighborhood safety by working with local clergy, the Alderman’s Office, the Chicago Police – CAPS program and community organizations such as Teamwork Englewood.

• Works with University of Chicago, Booth School of Business, to develop its sustainable long term strategy.
