Margaret’s Village has been warmly received as the new name for the Institute of Women Today.
To those of you who have not been informed yet, the Institute of Women Today board members voted to change the agency’s name. When Sister Margaret Traxler began IWT in 1974 with a group of interfaith women, it was a women’s advocacy organization. Today, with your help, we operate two homeless shelters and a senior center on Chicago’s South Side. Although we still advocate for women, direct service to the marginalized is our major endeavor. In an effort to celebrate our past as we embrace our future, the new name for IWT is Margaret’s Village.
Carol Marin unveiled the new name publicly Thursday, October 27, 2106 to a thunderous approval and response. Carol was a personal friend of Sister Margaret’s and she regaled the audience with memories of a modern day hero – our own feisty, feminist founder. Carol indicated it was her “honor” to step away from election season to join us, embrace all that IWT has accomplished and shepherd in this important new growth phase that begins with Margaret’s Village.
Please continue to follow us and support in the completion of our transition to Margaret’s Village, while also embracing IWT with the same zest and vigor as always.
